Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team remained unbeaten in its last seven outings and stayed unbeaten in East Coast Conference play with a 4-1 home win over the New York Tech Bears on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights are now 6-4-1 overall and a perfect 4-0-0 in the ECC. The Bears slip to 3-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference action.
Trailing 1-0 after New York Tech scored just 2:03 into play, Bridgeport tied the match just before halftime when Marieke Kramer (Grad./Megchelen, Netherlands) scored her fourth goal of 2019 with just 40 seconds to play in the opening half when she directed a home a free kick from Maegen Doyle (Sr./Harwich, England).
Sophomore Annie Bjork (Malmo, Sweden) would then score the game-winning goal for the second straight match when she connected off another set piece from Doyle just over eight minutes into the second half.
Maegen would then score her team's final two goals of the afternoon to give herself a six-point afternoon when she found the back of the night in the 64th and 72 minutes off assists for seniors Nara DaCosta (Pancas, Brazil) and Alyssa Samson (Ledyard, Conn.). Doyle now has a total of 16 goals and seven assists this season for a total of 39 points. She is also only seven goals away from breaking the all-time Bridgeport career record for goals scored of 62 held by Sofia Hoflin.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will travel to Worcester, Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon to face Assumption College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
