St. Cloud, Minn.-A penalty kick goal by Kaitlyn Dziubinski of the host St. Cloud State University Huskies in the 68th minute provided to be the difference in the match, as SCSU defeated the University of Bridgeport, 3-2, in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Minnesota. UB is 0-4-0 overall, and St. Cloud State is an even 1-1-1 on the young campaign.
The host squad opened the scoring just 49 seconds into play, but Bridgeport's Maegen Doyle (Sr., Harwich, England) would score the first of her two goals on the day of an assist from sophomore Rebekka Skaasheim (Balestrand, Norway).
The Huskies would grab a 2-1 lead heading into halftime when they scored with just over six minutes remaining in the opening stanza, only to see Doyle notch her second straight brace with a tally at the 64:25 mark.
Unfortunately for UB fans, Dziubinski's game-winner would come 3:30 later from the penalty spot.
SCSU outshot the Purple Knights, 12-8 on the afternoon.
UB goalkeeper Helena Dahlstrom (Fr, Stockholm, Sweden) made her collegiate debut on Saturday and was credited with three saves. Zoe Walsh made five stops to earn the win for St. Cloud State.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's soccer team will open its 2019 home schedule and unveil the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship banner at Knights on Wednesday evening when they host Wilmington (Del.) University. Ceremonies are slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
