Bridgeport's Maegen Doyle Selected As D2CCA Women's Soccer East Region Player Of The Year
Teammate Karoline Vieira Also Earns First Team All-Region Accolades
Flushing, N.Y. -University of Bridgeport forward Maegen Doyle has been named Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Women's Soccer East Region Player of the Year as part of the full announcement of the D2CCA All-East Region women's soccer teams on Wednesday (Nov. 14). The teams were voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the East Region.
Statistically speaking, Doyle's numbers are among the best not only in the East Region but also in the nation. The junior from Harwich, England led the region and the East Coast Conference with 25 goals and 53 total points scored as Bridgeport won the ECC regular-season and postseason championships and also advanced to the NCAA Tournament East Region final. Doyle ranks top-ten in the nation in goals and points along with 11 game-winning goals (second), 1.32 goals per game (third) and 2.79 points per game (seventh).
Fifteen schools within the East Region were represented in the tally, with four institutions---Franklin Pierce, Georgian Court, Goldey-Beacom and LIU Post---sporting three honorees each. The East Coast Conference (ECC) and Northeast-10 Conference received nine respective All-East mentions with the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) not far behind, nabbing eight laurels.
The First Team members now advance to the national ballot as potential All-America honorees. In addition, Doyle will be aligned with Player of the Year recipients from the seven other regions to vie for the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year Award.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
