Pair Star Both On The Pitch And In The Classroom
Bridgeport Conn.-Two members of the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team, senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) and junior forward Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) have been recognized for their outstanding performance in the classroom, as well as their fine play on the pitch, with spots on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District 1 First Team Women's Soccer squad. The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Both Wendelius and Doyle are marketing majors at UB, as Jennifer, who is making her second consecutive appearance on the Academic All-District Team, checks in with a 3.98 grade point average, and Maegen has posted a 3.77 GPA. Both student-athletes helped the Bridgeport women's soccer team win both the East Coast Conference regular season and championship tournament titles this season and earn a berth in the weekend's NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament. Wendelius has played every minute in goal for the Purple Knights so far in 2018, and she has posted 14 wins and eight shutouts. Doyle, the 2018 ECC Offensive Player of the Year, is one of the leading scorers in the nation with 23 goals and three assists for a total of 49 points.
