Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The host Mercy College Mavericks scored the game-winning goal with 4:40 to play in regulation as they posted a 2-1 East Coast Conference women's soccer victory over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the UB is now 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECC. Mercy, ranked number eight in the nation, moves to 5-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.
Mercy scored goals late in both halves on Saturday, as the took a 1-0 lead into halftime after finding the back of the net with just under three minutes to go in the first half.
The Purple Knights tied the game at 1-1 in the 58th minute when junior Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) scored her team-high fourth goal of 2018 of an assist from sophomore Amanda Ebbesson (Solna, Sweden).
UB senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made three stops on the day, as the two teams finished even in shots at 11-11.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's soccer team returns home to take on St. Thomas College in ECC action on Friday evening at Knights Field. Action is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
