Historic 2019 Season Comes To A Close For UB Women's Lacrosse In ECC Quarterfinals
UB Hangs Tough In First-Ever Conference Tournament Appearance Plus Falls To LIU Post
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team saw its 2019 season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon on Long Island, as the number six seeded Purple Knights, making the program's first-ever East Coast Conference Championship Tournament appearance, fell to the number three seed and number eight nationally ranked LIU Post Pioneers, 19-12, in ECC quarterfinal play. UB trailed 9-2 at the half, but battled the Pioneers to a 10-10 deadlock in the final 30 minutes of action. Bridgeport finishes the 2019 campaign at 8-9 overall, and LIUP moves on to the ECC semifinals with a 15-3 season mark.
Freshman Megan Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) led the UB offense with five goals on the day to finish her first collegiate season with 41 goals.
Junior Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore Julia Ruscio (St. Catharine's, Ontario, Canada), each had two goals on the afternoon, and Orsini added an assist to finish with a three-point game. Barbara finished the 2019 season as the team's leading goal scorer finding the back of the net a total of 42 times.
Senior Courtney Forry (Reinhold's, Pa.) dished off three assists and added one goal on Tuesday to put a bow on her record-setting four years in Purple and White. This year, Forry set program single-season records in assists with 55 and points with 82, and she leaves the Park City as the programs all-time leader in assists with 92 and points with 215.
Senior Amanda Fitzpatrick (New Hampton, N.Y.) and freshman Danielle Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) rounding out the Bridgeport goal scorers on Tuesday, each scoring a solo tally, and Kreitler also came away with 10 draw controls on the day which gives her a new Bridgeport single-season record in that category with 65 this season.
Junior goalkeeper Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) was again outstanding in net for the Purple Knights making a total of 17 saves on the afternoon.
