Women's Lax Falls At Molloy In Regular Season Finale, 15-10
Team Will Make Historic First-Ever ECC Championship Tournament Appearance At LIU Post On Tuesday Afternoon
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team finished off their 2019 regular season with a tough East Coast Conference loss at the RVC Athletic Complex in Rockville Centre, NY on Saturday afternoon, as the visiting Purple Knights fell to the host Molloy College Lions, 15-10. UB drops to 8-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play. Molloy finishes the regular season at 11-6 overall and 5-3 in the ECC.
Junior goalie Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) had another outstanding game in net for Bridgeport, making 19 saves on a total of 34 shots.
On offense, two Purple Knights had hat tricks in sophomores Julia Ruscio (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) and Shyla Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.). Rounding out the scoring for UB was freshman Megan Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) with two goals, junior Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) with one goal, and freshman Hannah McDermott (Guilford, Conn.) with one goal. Orsini also added two assists to her stat line.
Freshman Danielle Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) stood her ground in the draw circle for UB, grabbing six draw controls.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will take the field for the first playoff game in program history at LIU Post on Tuesday in the East Coast Championship Tournament. The start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
