Purple Knights Put On An Offensive Show As Women's Lacrosse Tops AIC, 20-6, In 2019 Season Opener
Senior Courtney Forry Registers 11 Points On The Day And Reaches The 100-Career Goal Mark With Four Markers On The Afternoon
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team put on an offensive show in the squad's 2019 season opener on Monday afternoon at Knights Field, as the Purple Knights topped the visiting American International College Yellow Jackets (0-1), 20-6, as four different UB players had at least four points on the day, and four Purple Knights scored three goals or more.
Senior Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) finished with a team-high 11 points on the afternoon, as she scored four goals and dished off seven assists. Those four goals etched Forry's named in the Bridgeport record book, as she becomes only the second player in program history to reach the 100 career goal plateau joining Gabrielle Valela.
Junior Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) finished with a team-high five goals and one assist for six points, and freshman Danielle Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) had a stellar UB debut scoring two goals with three assists for five points, plus she amassed a whopping 11 draw controls for the winners.
Sophomore Julia Ruscio (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) had four goals and classmate Shyla Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.) tailed three times to round out the Bridgeport goal scorers with at least a hat trick.
Seniors Ava Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) and Amanda Fitzpatrick (New Hampton, N.Y.) each scored one goal in Wednesday's 2019 season opener.
Bridgeport junior goalkeeper Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) had a fine season debut on Monday making 15 saves for the Purple Knights, 11 of which came in the first half when she faced 24 Yellow Jackets' shots.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will play its first road game contest of 2019 when they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on Assumption College next Tuesday, February 26 at 4:00 p.m.
