Bridgeport Senior Maya Reimers A Finalist For Prestigious Women's Gymnastics AAI Award
One Of 33 Finalists From All Over The Country
Bridgeport, Conn.-For 30 years, American Athletic, Inc. (AAI) has presented the prestigious AAI Award to the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country. The award is considered the Heisman Trophy in gymnastics. Every year, college coaches are asked to submit their nominations for this award. The coaches then vote to narrow down these nominations to six finalists, and ultimately the winner. AAI recognizes the achievements and dedication of each AAI Award Nominee and is proud to support NCAA® gymnastics.
This year, UB senior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) is one of 33 top-notch senior gymnasts to earn a spot on the ballot from which six finalists will be selected in early March.
According to Bridgeport head coach Byron Knox, this recognition is well-deserved and a true representation of what Reamers has meant to the Purple Knights during her four seasons on campus, "I'm so pleased Maya is being recognized for what she has meant to our program. She is a fierce competitor both in practice and during meets, plus she's a true student-athlete being active in community service and serving as a mentor to our Team Impact teammate."
