Senior Maya Reimers And Junior Kathryn Doran Earn Weekly ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards
Duo Helped The Purple Knights Shine During A Three-Meet Weekend Last Week
Danbury, Conn.-Two University of Bridgeport gymnasts have earned weekly ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards for their outstanding performances in last week's three-meet weekend for the Purple Knights.
Senior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) was named this week's ECAC Gymnast of the Week, as in UB's tri-meet weekend, Reimers went three for three on all three of her events. She averaged about a 9.7 on vault for the Purple Knights, about a 9.75 average on beam for the weekend and an impressive 9.9 or better performance on all three days on floor. She also won the floor title on Saturday at the Don Tonry Invitational. Maya tied her personal best score of a 9.925 in the final meet of the weekend.
Junior Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) earned ECAC Specialist of the Week honors. In last weekend's three meets, Doran performance was very impressive as she continued to raise her score from meet to meet on bars. Starting at a 9.725 in meet one, to a 9.825 on the second day, to win the uneven bar title at Yale's Don Tonry Invitational. Doran held steady at a 9.825 on the third day to win the event once again. She also came back into the beam lineup for the Purple Knights with an impressive 9.775 on Sunday.
The UB women's gymnastics team will be back in action for a pair of meets this weekend when they host Rhode Island College for Senior Night at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Wheeler Recreation Center and then travel to Brown University to compete on Sunday evening.
