Trio Of Purple Knights Take Home Weekly ECAC D II Women's Gymnastics Awards
Hayley Bangart, Caitlin Gray And Maya Reimers Recognized For Their Outstanding Performances At Brown This Past Sunday Afternoon
Danbury, Conn.-Three University of Bridgeport gymnasts have earned weekly ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards for their outstanding performances in last Sunday's 2020 tri-meet victory at Brown University with Rhode Island College.
Sophomore Hayley Bangart (Castle Rock, Colo.) earned ECAC Specialist of the Week honors, recording two of her personal best scores and leading the Purple Knights off strong on two events in Sunday's team win. She led off the meet with her 9.8 bar set with a stuck dismount. Hayley worked hard this week to change her floor routine and upgrade tumbling and it worked out for herself and the team.
UB's Caitlin Gray (Newington, Conn.) was chosen as the ECAC Rookie of the Week, as she continues to be consistent for UB, scoring her personal best 9.7 with a near stick on her Yurchenko layout full on the vault and tying her personal best 9.675 on uneven bars with a stick on her dismount.
Senior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) was named this week's Coaches' Choice Award winner. On Sunday, she turned in a typical standout and consistent performance as the Purple Knights anchor on beam, when Maya missed her leap/acro series, it took her out of contending for what could have been a near perfect score. With one judge flashing a 9.3, Maya knew that she had missed out on this opportunity, but she fought back and went on to score a 9.85 to win floor and a season best 9.725 on vault with a stuck Yurchenko full.
The UB women's gymnastics team will be busy this weekend competing three straight days at Temple on Friday night, at Yale on Saturday afternoon and back home against Brown and Southern Connecticut State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
