Outstanding Showing On The Bars Helps Lift Women's Gymnastics To Dual Meet Win Over Southern Connecticut State
Bars Group Posts A Season-Best 49.175 As UB Tops SCSU, 194.425-192.100
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team picked up a dual meet win over the host Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Saturday afternoon, as UB topped SCSU, 194.425-192.100.
On Saturday, the Purple Knights posted a season-high 49.175 on the bars, a 48.700 on the vault, a 48.650 in the floor exercise and a 47.900 on the balance beam.
On the bars, UB went one-two-three led by sophomore Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) who set a career-high and tied the UB record in the event on Saturday with a 9.925. . Senior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) took second on the bars with a career-best 9.850, and graduate student Kelli Tereshko (Madison, Indiana) was third with a 9.825.
Doran also took first on the beam on Saturday with 9.750, and freshman Jordan Streete (Agawam, Mass.) tied for second at 9.675.
In Saturday's vault competition, sophomore Gabrielle Kistner (Raleigh, N.C.) took first place at 9.850, and freshman Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) placed second with a 9.825.
Roland tied for first place in the floor exercise on Saturday posting a score of 9.825, and she won the all-around with a score of 39.025 in the four events.
Up next, the Purple Knights will wrap up another busy weekend of gymnastics action with a Sunday afternoon tri-meet at Brown that will also feature Temple University.
