Freshmen Women's Gymnastics Duo Earns Weekly ECAC Awards
Classmates Julianna Roland And Crystal Gwinn Honored For Their Outstanding Performances
Danbury, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport freshmen women's gymnastics duo of Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) and Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) has earned weekly DII awards from the ECAC for their outstanding performances at Temple's Ken Anderson Invitational last Friday night.
Roland earned ECAC Division II Women's Gymnast of the Week honors, and Gwinn was selected as the conference Rookie of the Week.
At Temple, Julianna set a new career mark in the all-around winning the event with a score of 39.100. To reach her new career best, she scored a 9.825 on vault, a 9.675 on the uneven bars and a 9.775 on the beam. In her last event, Roland scored a 9.825 on floor to round out her new career-best all-around score.
Crystal started off her meet with a personal best score on floor. She was flashed a 9.9 for a near perfect score and ultimately scored a 9.875 for the Purple Knights. The score also earned her first place in the meet. She would finish up her day competing on vault and score a 9.7.
Both Roland's and Gwinn's performance helped Bridgeport win the Ken Anderson Invitational with a season-high team score of 195.350.
This Friday, the UB women's gymnastics team returns to action at Towson University.
