Bridgeport Women's Gymnastics Earns Second Straight Quad Meet Win Capturing Yale's Don Tonry Invitational
UB Takes First Place With A Team Score Of 194.200
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team picked up its second straight quad meet victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights posted a team score of 194.200 to win the 2019 Don Tonry Imitational hosted by Yale University. The host Bulldogs took second place on Saturday with a team score of 193.175, and they were followed by Southern Connecticut State in third with a 192.350 and Springfield College in fourth posting a total of 188.200.
As a team, the Purple Knights won three of the four events in New Haven, winning the vault (48.800), the bars (48.850) and the floor exercise (49.050). UB totaled a 47.500 on the balance beam.
Bridgeport took the top four spots on the vault, as freshman Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) took first place with a 9.875, and she was followed by classmate Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) in second with a 9.800 and senior Brieanna Zine (Brockton, Mass.) in third at 9.775. Junior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Varvara Diakakis (Dix Hills, N.Y.) tied for fourth place with scores of 9.675.
Roland won first place in Saturday's all-around totaling a season-best 39.075 in the four events.
In the floor exercise, Maya Reimers tied for first place with a 9.900, and senior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) took third place scoring a 9.850.
On the bars, graduate student Kelli Tereshko (Madison, Indiana) was the top UB finisher tying for second place at 9.825, and on the balance beam, Julianna Roland took second place with a 9.750 and senior Delaney Cahill (Medford Lake, N.J.) took fourth place at 9.650.
Next weekend, the Bridgeport women's gymnastics team will be in action on Sunday, February 10 in Philadelphia, Pa., when the squad will compete in a quad meet at the University of Pennsylvania featuring the host Quakers plus Temple and West Virginia.
