Gymnastics Post Season-High Team Score Of 195.075 To Take First Place At Brown Quad Meet
UB Registers Season-High Scores In The Floor Exercise And Vault On Saturday Night
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics squad closed out the month of January with their finest performance so far of the 2019 season winning a quad meet hosted by Brown University posting a season-high team score of 195.075. The host Bears took second place with a total of 191.225, Hamline University place third with a score of 188.425 and Rhode Island College finished fourth at 177.850.
As a team on Saturday, the Purple Knights totaled season-bests in the floor exercise (49.100) and the vault (48.850), plus scored 48.625 on the bars and 48.500 on the balance beam.
In the floor exercise, junior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) took first place on the evening with a season-best score of 9.900, plus freshman Crystal Gwinn (New Port Richey, Fla.) and senior Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) tied for second place with season highs of 9.875.
Gwinn and classmate Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) tied for first place on vault with season-best scores of 9.850. Roland took first place in Saturday's all-around competition, as she totaled a season best 38.700 in the four events.
Along with first place in the floor exercise, Maya Reimers also topped the standings on the balance beam with a score of 9.825.
On the bars, sophomore Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) won the event for the second straight weekend, as she turned in a season-high score of a 9.875.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will travel to Yale University to take part in next Saturday's annual Don Tonry Invitational that is slated to begin at 12 noon in the Leer Amphitheater.
