Strong Second Half Comeback Falls Just Short For UB Women's Hoops

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The host Mercy College Mavericks scored the final nine points of the game to spoil a strong comeback by the visiting University of Bridgeport women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon and post a 71-68 East Coast Conference victory.  UB trailed by 12 points, 40-28, at the half, and the Purple Knights managed to pull ahead 68-62 with 3:14 to play only to see Mercy go on that 9-0 run to notch the victory.  The Purple Knights are now 4-16 overall and 2-6 in the ECC.  Mercy moves to 7-12 overall and 1-7 in conference action.

Senior Kyle Felton (Lithonia, Ga.) led Bridgeport with a game-high 20 points off the bench, and she tied for the team high in rebounds on the day with classmate Jaqualah Holliman (Boston, Mass.), as they each grabbed nine boards.

Felton was joined in double figures by junior Janiece Loney (Herndon, Va.) with a UB career-best 18 points, and freshman Gracen Kerr (Ansonia, Conn.) finished with 14 points in a reserve role.

All five Mercy starters reached double figures led by Taysha Bender with 19 points.

Up next, the UB women will travel to Queens (N.Y.) to close out a three-game road trip next Saturday afternoon.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
