UB Women Back In Win Column With 74-63 Road Win Over Mercy
Samnell Vonleh Leads UB With 24 Points And 15 Rebounds
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team got back in the win column on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights snapped a six-game losing skid with a 74-63 East Coast Conference road victory over the Mercy College Mavericks. With the win, UB is now 9-13 overall and 5-7 in the ECC. Mercy falls to 4-18 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led Bridgeport with an impressive double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds on the night.
Three other Purple Knights reached double-digit scoring in the triumph, as senior Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) scored 16 points, junior Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 12 points and freshman Gianna Gotti (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) chipped in 11 points. Gotti finished with a near double-double off the UB bench, as she also grabbed nine boards.
The Purple Knights dominated the glass on the evening outrebounding Mercy, 46-31.
Amber Brown led the Mavericks with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds.
After a weekend off, the UB women's basketball team is back in action one week from tonight at Molloy College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
