Women's Basketball Moves To 4-1 In Conference Play With An 89-56 Home Win Over Mercy
Four Purple Knights Reach Double-Digit Scoring On The Night Led By Samnell Vonleh's 20 Points
Bridgeport, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team jumped out to an 8-1 lead to begin the game, and the Purple Knights never trailed on the night posting an 89-56 East Coast Conference home win over the Mercy Mavericks on Wednesday. This win snaps a three-game losing streak for UB and is also a season high in single game points for the team. Bridgeport is now 8-7 overall and 4-1 in the ECC. Mercy is now 3-11 overall and 0-5 in the East Coast Conference.
Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) stole the show for the winners, recording a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds; plus racking up five blocks on the defensive end. She was joined in double figures by junior Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 points plus seniors Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) and Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.), each added 12 points. Middleton directed the UB offense dishing off seven assists.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will host Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday, January 28 in Hubbell Gym. Tip-off is set for 5:00 pm.
