UB Senior Samnell Vonleh Surpasses The 1,000 Career Point Plateau Netting A Career High 29 Points On The Day
Bridgeport, Conn.-The visiting Merrimack College Warriors hit 18 three-point shots on the day and never trailed in the game, as they posted a 91-61 non-conference win over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday in Hubbell Gym. With the loss, UB is now an even 7-7 on the season, and Merrimack moves to 9-5 on the year with the victory.
For the Purple Knights, senior Samnell Vonleh scored a career-high 29 points on the day, and she notched her fourth double-double of the season grabbing 11 rebounds. Vonleh surpassed the 1,000 career point mark on Saturday, as she entered play need four points to reach that milestone. 243 of her career points came during her freshman season at St. Anselm College before she joined the Bridgeport program for her sophomore year. Sam also blocked a pair of shots on the night.
UB freshman Gianna Gotti (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) also reached double-digit scoring for the hosts netting 15 points.
Senior, point guard Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) dished off 10 assists for the Purple Knights on the evening.
Merrimack's Alyssa Casey led all scorers in the game with 34 points, and she finished with a double-double, as she also had 11 rebounds for the winners.
The Purple Knights return to East Coast Conference play on Wednesday night and continue a four-game homestand as they host the Mercy Mavericks. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 pm.
