Vonleh's UB Career Best 27 Points Helps Propel Bridgeport Women's Hoops To An 80-61 Win Over UDC In ECC Opener
Purple Knights Have Now Won Three Games In A Row
Bridgeport, Conn.- The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team opened its 2018-19 East Coast Conference schedule against the University of District of Columbia on Wednesday night, and the host Purple Knights topped the visiting Firebirds, 80-61. UB has now won consecutive three games making raising the team's overall record 4-3 and 1-0 in the ECC. UDC slips to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Wednesday's 80 points are a single-high so far this year for the Purple Knights.
Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led the Purple Knights in scoring with a UB career high 27 points. Vonleh also led the team in rebounds with 12 and dished out three assists. The senior went 7-9 from the free throw line.
Graduate student Nkechi "NK" Ilang (Ebonyi State, Nigeria) also notched a double-double putting up 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for the winners.
Junior Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed 17 points, knocking down 5-of-7 three-point shots, and senior Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) rounded out the Bridgeport double-digit scorers with 10 points plus she dished out six assists on the night and added three steals.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will hit the road looking to add to their win streak taking on East Coast Conference opponent St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
