Softball's Allison Luzzi And Elyssa Marmolejo Earn 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Accolades
Duo Shines Both On The Diamond And In The Classroom
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball infield duo of senior Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) and junior Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, California) have earned spots on the 2020 CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) NCAA Division II Softball Academic All-District 1 Team.
The 2020 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Honorees selected First Team Academic All-District® advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. National Academic All-America® honorees for softball will be announced in early June.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution and be at least a sophomore academically.
Both Luzzi and Marmolejo, who helped the UB softball team earn the nation's team NCAA Division II grade point average last season, are Biology majors.
This season marks the second consecutive season that Luzzi has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades. When the 2020 season ended, she led the nation in home runs per game average at 0.54, blasting seven homers in 13 games played. Allison also led Bridgeport with a .378 batting average and 11 runs batted in.
Marmolejo was second on the Purple Knights in batting average this season at .349.
