Auburndale, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team (1-3) continued its Spring Break Trip to Florida on Friday with games against Georgian Court University and St. Anselm College, and the Purple Knights went 0-2 on the day, falling to GCU, 3-1, and dropping a 5-1 decision St. Anselm.
Against Georgian Court, UB outhit the Lions, 6-3, but the Purple Knights committed four miscues in the game that allowed a pair of unearned runs to cross the plate.
Senior Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.), who went 2-for-3 in the contest, accounted for Bridgeport's only run with a fourth inning solo homer.
In the circle, freshman Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) fired her second straight complete game for UB against the Lions allowing only three hits over seven innings, three runs (only one earned) with six strikeouts and three walks.
Versus St. Anselm, the Purple Knights grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by senior Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.), but the Hawks responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a lead which they would never relinquish.
Junior Sarah Silver (Vernon, Conn.) led a seven-hit UB attack in Friday's second game going 2-for-2, and classmate Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calif.) had hits in both of the day's game to extend her hitting streak to all four of the Purple Knights games played so far in 2020.
