Springfield, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at American International College on Thursday afternoon, as the Purple Knights won game one, 7-3, and fell in game two, 8-0, in five innings. With the split, UB is now 15-3 on the season, and AIC moves its overall mark to 3-11.
In the opener, the Purple Knights had a total of 12 hits, and the team had two run batted in from senior Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.), and juniors Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) and Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) plus sophomore Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calif.) each had one RBI.
Graduate student Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) earned the win in the pitching circle in game one to move her season record to 7-1, as she fired a seven-hit complete game.
In the nightcap, the Purple Knights were limited to only one hit a single by Elyssa Marmolejo.
Up next, the UB softball team will open a scheduled six-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when the Purple Knights return to East Coast Conference play with a 12 noon home doubleheader against Queens (N.Y.) College.
