Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split two games in Florida on Tuesday to move to 8-2 after the first 10 games of 2019, as the Purple Knights topped Bentley University, 7-2, early in the morning and then fell 3-1 in a lunchtime affair against Lock Haven.
In the win over Bentley, junior Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) picked up the win in the pitching circle striking out 10 Falcons. Juniors Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) and Samantha Sabor (Planfield, Ill.) plus sophomore Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calif.) each had two hits for the winners, and Sabor and Marmolejo had two runs batted in apiece.
In the loss to Lock Haven, the Purple Knights were limited to five singles, and graduate student hurler Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Illinois) picked her first loss of 2019, so her record now stands at 4-1, as she allowed two runs (only one earned) in three innings of work.
Sophomore Miranda Hillman (Placentia, Calif.) continued her strong start in the circle for UB so far in 2019 working four innings of relief in which she allowed only one unearned run
After an off day on Wednesday, the UB softball team returns to the field in the Sunshine State on Thursday against Salem (W.Va.) University and California (Pa.) University.
