Waterbury, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Post University on Monday afternoon, as UB won game one, 16-6 and fell in game two, 14-5, in five innings. With the split, the Purple Knights are now 10-8 on the season, and Post moves to 4-8 on the year.
In the opener, senior Yalitza Rodriguez (Freeport, N.Y.) drove in five runs, including smashing a three-run home run in a six-run, seventh inning.
Sophomore Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill,) knocked in three runs for UB in game one, and freshman Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) had two hits and two runs batted in to aid a 14-hit attack.
Sophomore Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) picked up her team-best fifth win of the season in game one, and freshman Brittany Prock (Sunnyvale, Calif.) earned her second save of 2018 in the pitching circle.
In game two, Sabor and Ramon each had two more hits with Samantha added two runs batted in and Kaira added one RBI.
Sophomore Abbigail Blanchard (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) plus junior Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) also contributed two hits apiece for Bridgeport in game two.
The UB softball team is right back on the diamond on Tuesday when they open East Coast Conference play at Queens (N.Y.) College.
