Swim Teams Ready For This Weekend's 2019 Metropolitan Collegiate Conference Championships
Purple Knights Look To Excel This Friday Through In New Jersey
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams, under the direction of head coach Richard "Doc" Ludemann are ready for this weekend's (February 22-24) 2019 Metropolitan Collegiate Conference Swimming & Diving Championships to be held on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey.
The UB men, led by senior captain Klavio Meca (Tirana, Albania), finished the dual meet season undefeated this year and head into the 2019 Metro Championships against ready to take on 17 other tough teams. The Purple Knights will field a strong contingent positioned in the top five in 11 individual events and three relays. NCAA qualifiers Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia), Brian Kelly (Mahwah, N.J.), Kosta Mitrovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) will provide a strong base for the Knights, who will need to be strong in the swimming events to offset not fielding a diving program.
The UB women, who are led by senior captain Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) along with classmate Clara Mico Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) plus newcomer and NCAA qualifier Mariia Rezhylo (Kiev, Ukraine), have grabbed top three seeds in seven individual events and are seeking several top-notch performances throughout the weekend as well.
