Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Leandro Avila (Panama City, Panama) blasted the match-winning goal, his team-leading seventh tally of the season, through the legs of Assumption College goalkeeper Sebastian Jimenez with just under 14 minutes to play in regulation to lift the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team to a tight 2-1 home, non-conference win over the Greyhounds on Wednesday evening at Knights Field. Bridgeport is now 8-4-1 on the season, and the Purple Knights are unbeaten in their last six matches with five victories and a draw. Assumption is now 7-6-0 overall.
UB led 1-0 at halftime as senior Lucas Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) headed home his first goal of 2019 off a free kick from sophomore Oscar Facey (Trangsund, Sweden) at the 23:04 mark of the match.
The Greyhounds tied the contest at 1-1 in the 64th minute when Mauro Cortez scored off an assist from Jamison Magowan.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Felipe Dias (Bridgeport, Conn.) made two saves to earn his second victory of the season.
On the night, the Purple Knights outshot the Greyhounds, 18-9.
