New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team lost its first match of the 2018 season in tough fashion to host Southern Connecticut State University, 2-1, in overtime.
The Owls scored the first goal of the afternoon just 1:21 into the second half on a Purple Knights' own goal.
Following a water break the Purple Knights were able to get on the board tying the score at one when junior Lucas Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) at the 69:53 mark.
After going into overtime, SCSU won the match on a goal by Luckas Sztmecki just over four minutes into extra time.
UB senior goalkeeper Daniel Coviella (Ribadesella, Spain) played a strong match making six saves including stopping a second half penalty kick.
On the day, Southern Connecticut State outshot UB, 17-13.
