Purple Knights Up Season Men's Basketball Mark To 13-2 With A 104-89 Home Win Over Molloy
UB Has Now Won Nine In A Row Moving To 13-2 Overall And 5-0 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team picked up its ninth win in a row and matched the best start for the program since the 1990-91 season at 13-2 overall with a 104-89 home East Coast Conference home win over the visiting Molloy College Lions on Wednesday night in Hubbell Gym. The Purple Knights remain unbeaten in the ECC at 5-0. Molloy is now 6-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The best start in University of Bridgeport men's basketball history is a 14-2 start turned in by the 1975-76 squad.
Bridgeport never trailed on Wednesday, as the team surpassed the 100-point plateau for the second time during the 2019-20 season.
Six Purple Knights reached double-figure scoring in the win led by senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) with 22 points. Camara also had four assists, three rebound, three steals and a blocked shot on the night.
UB junior Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) finished with an impressive double-double on Wednesday scoring 20 points and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds; plus he added four assists and one steal.
Senior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) and freshman Ryo Kobayashi (Kanagawa, Japan) each had 12 points for UB with all of Kobayashi's scoring coming on made three-point shots.
Juniors Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) with 11 points and Juan Coffi (Barcelona, Spain) with 10 points rounded out six Purple Knights in double digits.
Molloy's James Montgomery led all scorers in the game with 25 points off the Molloy bench.
The UB men's basketball team will look to run its winning streak to double figure on Saturday afternoon when the Purple Knights closed out a two-game homestand against New York Tech. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m.
