Senior Bakary Camara Earns Second ECC Men's Basketball Defensive Player Of The Week Honor Of 2019-20
Helped UB Go 3-0 Last Week And Run Winning Streak To Eight Games
West Babylon, N.Y.-For the second time this season, University of Bridgeport senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) has been selected as the East Coast Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, recognizing his outstanding play in games that took between January 6 and 12, 2019. This week's award is also marks the third time this season that Camara has been recognized with a conference award, as last week, he was named the ECC's co-Player of the Week.
Camara averaged 8.3 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game plus blocked two shots in a 3-0 week versus quality competition. In a win over Stonehill, he had seven rebounds, three steals and nine points. Camara followed that up with eight rebounds, three steals and 19 points at Roberts Wesleyan, and Bakary closed the week out with a double-double of 10 rebounds and 18 points plus added three steals and two blocked shots in Sunday's huge win at Daemen.
So far in 2019-20, he leads the Purple Knights in rebounding averaging 6.9 boards per game, and he is second on the team in scoring average at 14.1 points per game. Camara also leads UB in total steals with 35 and blocked shots with 10.
This week, Bakary and his teammates host a pair of East Coast Conference games taking on Molloy on Wednesday evening and New York Tech on Saturday afternoon.
