Quick Start To The Second Half Helps Propel Men's Basketball To a 102-88 Home Win Over NYIT
Team Tops 100-Point Mark For The Seventh Time This Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-Leading 44-42 at the half, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team outscored the visiting NYIT Bears, 18-2, in the first 5:29 of the second half to take a 62-44, and the Purple Knights never looked back cruising to a 102-88 home East Coast Conference win on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, UB, which has now won five of its last six outings and two in a row, is now 10-9 overall and 5-4 in the ECC. NYIT slips to 2-16 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Bridgeport has now topped 100 points in a game seven time so far in 2018-19.
Sophomore Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) five Purple Knights in double-figure scoring with a game high 17 points, and he also dished off five assists.
Robinson-Morgan was joined in double figures by junior John Middleton (Atlantic City, N.Y.), sophomore Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) and freshman Jayden Iturmendi (York, Pa.), who each netted 14 points, plus junior Jose Pabon-Sanchez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points for the winners.
Junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) and sophomore Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia), each fell just shy of a double-double on the day scoring, as they both scored eight points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Senior Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.) had a game-best 10 assists for Bridgeport on the day, plus he added seven points and two steals and two boards to complete solid all-around effort.
Collins Onyeike finished with a double-double for the Bears scoring 15 points with 11 rebounds
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will travel to Washington D.C. looking to run its winning streak to three games as they face the University of the District of Columbia in an ECC contest. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
