Five UB Players Reach Double Figures Led By Hashem Abbas With 19 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team never trailed and five Purple Knights reached double-digit scoring, as UB posted a 90-73 home East Coast Conference victory over Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Friday night. The win, Bridgeport's third in a row, ups the team's overall record to an even 8-8 so far in 2018-19, and the Purple Knights are also even in the ECC at 3-3. RWC falls to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
Sophomore Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) led Bridgeport with 19 points and eight rebounds on the evening.
Abbas was joined in double figures by senior Dennis Green (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) with 12 points each, sophomore Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) added 11 points and freshman Jayden Iturmendi (York. Pa.) chipped in 10 points.
Roberts Wesleyan was led by Isiah Lewis with 24 points.
The Bridgeport bench outscored the Redhawks reserves by a 34-6 margin, and the Purple Knights forced 25 turnovers by RWC.
The UB men's basketball team is next scheduled to be in action on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. when they close out a four-game homestand with an ECC game against Daemen College, weather permitting.
