Rally Falls Short As Men's Hoops Drops 90-85 OT Decision At Dominican (N.Y.) College
UB Back In Action At Home Versus Bloomfield On Saturday Afternoon
Orangeburg, N.Y.-The Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers outscored the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 11-6, in overtime to post a 90-85 non-conference men's basketball win to close out the Thanksgiving weekend on Sunday afternoon. After opening the season with three straight wins, Bridgeport now stands at 3-2 overall. Sunday's win also moves Dominican to 3-2 on the young season.
The visiting Purple Knights trailed by 14 points, 31-17, with 6:02 to play in the first half, but UB closed out the opening stanza on a 21-6 run to grab a 38-37 halftime lead.
In the season half, Dominican led by as many as 10 points twice, but Bridgeport came back to force overtime tied at 79-79.
UB was plagued by turnovers on Sunday committing 25 miscues, and the Purple Knights also shot only 36.4 percent from the floor (32-of-88), including hitting just 6-of-26 attempts from behind the three-point line.
Senior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) led four Bridgeport players in double figures with 19 points.
Trumbo was joined in double-digit scoring by junior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) with 16 points, sophomore Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) with 14 points, and sophomore Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points.
Camara led UB on the boards grabbing nine rebounds.
Daraja Rodwell of Dominican lead all scorers on the day with 21 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team returns to Hubbell Gym next Saturday at 2:00 p.m., when the Purple Knights will look to get back in the win column versus Bloomfield College in a non-conference tilt.
