Purple Knights And Owls Play To 6-6 Baseball Tie In Game Halted By Darkness After Eight Innings
UB Opens Up Florida Spring Trip On Saturday
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team battled the host Southern Connecticut State Owls to a 6-6 tie in a game called due to darkness after eight innings. The Purple Knights are now 2-3-1 overall, and SCSU moves to 4-2-1 on the young season.
The Owls took a 1-0 lead after the first, but the visitors came back to grab a 4-1 advantage after six innings. SCSU tied the game at 4-4 with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, and the teams both plated a pair of markers in the eight before darkness won out forcing the contest to be halted.
Junior Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and freshman John Chacho (Seymour, Conn.), each had two hits for Bridgeport on the day, and sophomores Logan Allen (Magnolia, Texas) and Matt Rodriguez (New Milford, Conn.) drove in runs for the Purple Knights.
UB starter, senior William Jackson (New Haven, Conn.) pitched well working five innings in which he allowed only three hits, one run (earned) with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Up next, the UB baseball team will open its annual Spring Break Trip to Florida with a game against the Bentley University Falcons on Saturday in Altamonte Springs.
