Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened the 2020 season with a doubleheader sweep over the Pace University Setters, as the Purple Knights took the opener, 4-2, and completed the sweep with a 13-12 win in the nightcap.
In game one, sophomore Joey Grillo (Sound Beach, N.Y.) blasted a solo home run, and Conall Roberts (Jr., Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and Logan Allen (So., Magnolia. Tex.), each had RBI singles.
In game two, the Bridgeport bats erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning and three each in the sixth and seventh innings to pick up the sweep.
The Purple Knights will continue their trip to the Palmetto State on Saturday when they face the Dolphins of Lemoyne College at 11:00 a.m. in Myrtle Beach at the Ripken Experience Complex.
