Bridgeport, Conn.-The visiting LIU Post Pioneers pushed across a run in the top of the ninth inning to take a tight 2-1 East Coast Conference win over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Friday afternoon in the Park City. With the loss, the Purple Knights are now 11-20 overall and 7-6 in conference play. LIUP moves to 21-11 overall and 12-1 in the ECC.
Bridgeport scored its lone run on the afternoon on a wild pitch in the second inning.
Senior Eamon Catherina (Ridgefield, N.J.) and sophomore Patrick Palmer (Ansonia, Conn.) each had two hits for UB on Friday.
James Varela earned the win for LIU post striking out 12 with one walk, as he pitched a complete game six-hitter.
The same two teams will continue their four-game weekend series with a 12 noon doubleheader at LIU Post on Saturday.
