Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team continued to play well at its new home in Seaside Park on a windy Wednesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights banged out 16 hits, including three home runs, on their way to a 14-5 non-conference win over local rival, the University of New Haven Chargers. UB is now 10-15 overall and 5-1 at home. UNH slips to 8-10 overall in 2019.
On Wednesday, UB got home runs from junior Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.), sophomore Conall Roberts (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and freshman Matt Rodriguez (New Milford, Conn.).
Rauso drove in three runs on the day, and Roberts, along with freshmen Joey Grillo (Sound Beach, N.Y.) and Ryan Donnelly (Fairfield, Conn.), each had two runs batted in.
Freshman Anthony Jacabacci (Brookhaven, N.Y.) earned the win on the mound for Bridgeport.
Up next, the UB baseball team will open a big weekend, four-game East Coast Conference series at NYIT on Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
