Purple Knights Top Bentley, 3-1, For First Baseball Win Of 2019
Pitchers Anthony Martino And Christopher Martucci Shine On The Mound
Tampa, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team picked up is first win of the 2019 season on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights defeated the Bentley University Falcons, 3-1, in Tampa, Florida. UB is now 1-7 overall, and the Falcons remain winless at 0-10.
Bridgeport scored two runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed on the day.
Senior Eamon Catherina (Ridgefield, N.J.) had the Purple Knights lone RBI on the afternoon.
Pitching ruled the day for Bridgeport on Sunday, as starter Anthony Martino (So., West Sayville, N.Y.) earned the win working seven strong innings in which he allowed only one run on two hits with eight strikeouts and only one walk.
Senior Christopher Martucci (Ridgefield, N.J.) picked up a save against the Falcons allowing no hits or runs over the final two innings.
The UB baseball team continues its Spring Break trip to Florida on Monday facing Bentley again in the afternoon followed by a night game against the University of Tampa.
