Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team led 1-0 after the first inning of their 2019 season opener against Franklin Pierce University (2-0) but fell to the Ravens, 13-1, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Friday afternoon.
UB got on the scoreboard when junior Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.), who had a triple and double on the day, plated freshman Ryan Donnelly (Fairfield, Conn.), who had hit and steal in the game, in the bottom of the first.
Freshman Joey Grillo (Sound Beach, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 in his UB debut.
Sophomore Anthony Martino (West Sayville, N.Y.) took the loss on the mound for Bridgeport working five innings as the starter striking out five and allowing three earned runs.
UB will continue its season-opening trip to South Carolina playing two games on Saturday taking on LeMoyne and Southern New Hampshire.
