Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team dropped its 2018 season opener against highly-ranked Southern New Hampshire University, 9-3, on Thursday evening in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the top of fifth, the Purple Knights railed to take a 3-2 lead on an RBI double by sophomore catcher Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) and a two-run error by SNHU.
The Penmen came back to take 5-3 lead which they never relinquished in the bottom of the inning, and they would then add four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score, 9-3.
Senior Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.) led the Bridgeport offense with two hits on the night.
UB returns to the diamond on Friday afternoon when the team continues its season-opening trip to South Carolina with a 4:00 p.m. contest versus. Franklin Pierce University.
