Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team grabbed the final spot in the 2016 East Coast Conference Baseball Championship Tournament with a 7-1 home win over the St, Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Monday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. UB finishes the 2016 regular season a 24-20-1 overall and 13-11 in ECC action. STAC is now 35-13 overall and 16-8 in conferee play. The same two teams will meet on Thursday at Dowling College at 3:00 p.m. in the opening round of the 2016 ECC Championship Tournament.
On Monday, junior Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) had two hits and two runs batted in for the winners, and senior Bryan Kondor (Shelton, Conn.) added two RBIs.
Junior Matt Van Riper (Elmwood Park, N.J.) worked seven innings to pickyup his fifth win of the year on the mound for UB.
