Anderson's Top-Notch Start Helps Baseball Team To 6-2 Victory Over St. Thomas Aquinas
Same Two Team Will Continue Their Four-Game Weekend ECC Series With A Doubleheader At STAC On Saturday
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened a key, four-game weekend East Coast Conference series versus the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans with a 6-2 victory at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday afternoon. With the win, UB is 22-15-1 overall and 11-6 in conference action. STAC is also 11-6 in conference play, and the Spartans are now 30-11 overall.
On the mound, Bridgeport starter Rob Anderson (Sr., Stratford, Conn.) was simply outstanding, as he raised his season record to 4-1, as he worked seven scoreless innings, in which he allowed only four hits while striking out five and dancing around seven walks. STAC scored two unearned runs in the eighth inning off the UB bullpen for their only runs of the day.
On offense, the Purple Knights banged out 12 hits off three different STAC hurlers.
Sophomore Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.) drove in two runs, and four different UB players had two hits apiece in Daren Grabowski (So., Berlin, Conn.), Casey Ouellette (Jr., New Canaan, Conn.), Tyler Gambardella (Jr., West Haven, Conn.) and Justin Carey (Jr. Amherst, Mass.). Gambardella and Carey each drove in a drove, as did junior Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.).
The same two teams will play at doubleheader hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon. Game one is slated for a 12 noon first pitch.
