UB Baseball Opens Spring Trip To Florida By Doubling Bentley, 8-4
Junior Casey McCone Goes 3-for-5 with 4 RBI And Blasts Third Homer Of The Season
Tampa, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team opened its Spring Trip to Florida by doubling up the Bentley University Falcons, 8-4, on Saturday afternoon at the University of Tampa. UB is now 3-2-1 on the season, and Bentley falls to 4-6 so far in 2016.
Junior Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) led a 13-hit Purple Knights' offensive attack by going 3-for-5 at the plate with four runs batted in. McCone also blasted his third home run of the year, a two-run shot in the ninth inning.
Four UB players had two hits apiece in Saturday's victory, junior Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.), sophomore Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.), junior Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) and senior Alnaydo Rodriguez (Bronx. N.Y.).
On the mound, junior Anthony Alicki (Milford, Conn.) picked up his first win of the season working six innings in which he allowed eight hits and four runs; while striking out four and walking two batters.
The same two teams will meet again tomorrow at the University of Tampa with a scheduled game time of 1:00 p.m.
