Baseball Closes Out Opening Weekend Trip To South Carolina With 2-1 Loss To Nyack
UB Now 2-2 On The Young Season
Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team wrapped up its season-opening trip to South Carolina with a 2-1 loss to the Nyack College Warriors on Sunday afternoon. UB is now an even 2-2 on the young season, and Nyack is now 1-3 on the year
Nyack scored single runs in the first and second innings to make a hard-luck loser of senior Ridge Ackerman (Spingfield, Ill.) in his UB debut. Ackerman pitched well over seven innings, as he allowed only those two runs (one unearned) on only four hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
The Purple Knights plated their only run of the afternoon in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore Ben Torres (Miami, Fla.) tripled and scored on a ground out by junior Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.).
Nyack starter, freshman Jack Kelley went the distance allowing only the one run on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
The Bridgeport baseball team is scheduled to return to the diamond at Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday, March 8.
