John Ascenzia Selected To 2015 Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-East Region Baseball First Team
Tim Bickford And Rob Anderson Named Second Team All-Region
Philadelphia, Pa.-University of Bridgeport senior, shortstop John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) has been selected to the 2015 Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-East Region Baseball First Team. Teammates, senior, designated hitter Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior, starting pitcher Rob Anderson (Stratford, Conn.) earned places on the 2015 Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-East Region Baseball Second Team.
The trio helped the Purple Knights finish 2015 with a 25-24 record and grab the program's first-ever share of the East Coast Conference regular season title, plus make UB's fourth appearance in the ECC Tournament final in the last five years.
Ascenzia, who became Bridgeport's career leader in hits this season also earned Honorable Mention All-East Region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, led the team with a .314 batting average and in hits with 48, plus he was second on the club in runs batted in with 27. In the field, John made only three errors all season long handling 180 chances at shortstop.
Bickford, who moved into the top spot on the UB career doubles list this season, led the Purple Knights in home runs with four and RBI with 30 in 2015. Tim was also named Second Team All-East Region by the NCBWA/
Anderson went 6-1 this season with a 1.81 earned run average, and he also was earned Honorable Mention All-East Region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The D2SIDA All-America and All-Region baseball teams are sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.
