Jannotta's Legs And Bat Plus Arms Of Alicki And Martino Lift UB Baseball To 2-1 Win Over Pace
Win Earns Purple Knights A Split Of Weekend Series
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team road the legs and the bat of junior Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) and a strong pitching performance from sophomore Anthony Alicki (Milford, Conn.) and freshman PJ Martino (Medford, N.Y.) to pick up a 2-1 win over the visiting Pace University Setters at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday night and earn a split of the teams' weekend series. UB is now 19-21 overall, and the Setters are 17-16 on the season.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning, Jannotta stole home to tie the game, and he would drive in the game-winning run in the seventh inning. On the night, Alec stole two bases and went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Jannotta's hit made a winner out of Alicki, who is now 4-3 on the year, as he worked seven innings in which he fanned seven batters and allowed only one unearned run.
Martino finished the game to notch his third save of 2015.
Sophomore Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) also had two hits in Sunday's victory for Bridgeport.
The UB baseball team is right back in action at the Ballpark at Harbor on Monday, as the Purple Knights will host Wilmington (Del.) University at 6:00 p.m. Monday will also be Senior Night for the Bridgeport baseball program.
