Worcester, Mass.-It was a happy homecoming for University of Bridgeport head baseball coach Joe Tonelli on Thursday afternoon, as the Purple Knights posted a 13-5 non-conference win at Assumption College. Tonelli, a 1990 Assumption College graduate, sees his team raise its overall mark to 18-20. The host Greyhounds slip to 8-24 overall.
As a team, Bridgeport banged out 17 hits on the day, led by juniors Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.), who went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.), who also had three runs batted in, going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Senior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) drove in a team-best five runs in the win on Thursday, as he went 2-for-5.
Sophomore Ray Kreiger (Derby, Conn.) picked up the win on the mound for UB to raise his season mark to 4-1. Kreiger started the game and worked six innings in which he allowed only one run on three hits, as he struck out five and walked two.
The UB baseball is back at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. when Pace University comes to town.
