UB Baseball Wins For The Fourth Time In Five Outings With 4-1 Victory Over Dominican (N.Y.) In 2015 Home Opener
Purple Knights Now 8-15 Overall On The Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team picked up its second win in a row and fourth win in its last five outings with a 4-1 non-conference victory over the Dominican (N.Y.) College Chargers in the Purple Knights' 2015 home opener at a rainy and cold Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday afternoon. UB is now 8-15 overall, and the Chargers slip to 2-9 on the year.
Senior, right-hander Clayton Morris (Sharpsburg, Ga.) picked up the win on the mound for Bridgeport working seven strong innings as the starter in which he allowed only one run while scattering seven hits. Morris, who is now 1-0 on the season, fanned five and walked just one in his seven innings of work.
Freshman Kevin Johnson (Milford, Conn.) worked the final two innings allowing ne runs and no hits while striking out two and not issuing a base on balls.
Freshman Jose Negron (New haven, Conn.), sophomores Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) and Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) plus senior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) each drove in a run for Bridgeport on Tuesday.
Up next, the UB baseball team is scheduled to open a four-game East Coast Conference series with Mercy College with a 12 noon doubleheader on Friday in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
