Baseball Bangs Out 12 Hits But Falls At Dowling, 5-3
Team Scheduled To Be Back In Action At Wilmington (Del.) On Wednesday
Brookhaven, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team banged out a total of 12 hits on the afternoon but left 14 runners on base, as the Purple Knights dropped a 5-3 East Coast Conference road decision to the host Dowling College Golden Lions on a chilly Monday afternoon on Long Island. UB is now 4-13 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Dowling ups its overall mark to 6-3, and the Golden Lions are now 2-1 in the ECC.
Junior Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) led the UB offensive attack on Monday going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Sophomore Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) and freshmanTyler Theiss (Deer Park, N.Y), each had two hits and drove in one run for the Purple Knights.
Senior John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) drove in Bridgeport's other run on the afternoon.
Sophomore Dakota Edwards (Turlock, Calif.) took the loss on the mound for the Purple Knights. Edwards, who is on 0-2 on the year, was plagued by wildness as he walked five batters in 5.1 innings pitched in which he allowed six hits, five runs (four earned) and struck out six.
Freshman PJ Martino (Medford, N.Y.) did a nice job in relief keeping UB in the game working 2.2 shutout innings.
Up next, the UB baseball team is scheduled to travel to Wilmington (Del. University on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
