Tampa, Fla.-University of Bridgeport senior shortstop John Ascenzia (West Haven, Conn.) had two hits in each of the Purple Knights two games in Florida on Saturday giving him 147 total hits for his career which ties him for the top spot on the Purple Knights' all-time hit list with Peter Barrows. The Purple Knights are now 3-7 on the 2015 season after splitting their games on Saturday losing a tough pitchers' duel against Stonehill, 4-1, in 10 innings to open the day, and then topping Bentley University, 7-1.
The Stonehill game was scoreless through nine innings before the Skyhawks capitalized on a UB error to plate four runs in the top of the tenth.
In the win over Bentley, Ascenzia had two hits and two runs batted in to help make a winner on the mound of junior Rob Anderson (Stratford, Conn.).
Senior Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior Alec Jannotta (Branford, Conn.) also chipped in two hits apiece in the Bentley game.
On Sunday, the Purple Knights will move from the Gulf Coast of Florida to the Atlantic side to face Southern Connecticut State University at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
